Introduction
Maus-Tec respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have regarding your data.
This policy covers all of our products and services, including but not limited to:
- Our online storefront at maustec.io (the “Store”)
- Our corporate website at maus-tec.com (the “Corporate Site”)
- Maus-Tec product firmware installed on our hardware devices
- Maus-Tec companion software, including mobile apps, desktop utilities, and firmware upload tools (collectively, “Software”)
- Maus-Hub online services at hub.maustec.io (the “Marketplace”)
- Maus-Link remote connection services
- Customer support interactions via Zendesk
- Any other products, services, or software we develop and offer
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at info@maus-tec.com.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 When You Visit Our Websites
When you visit our Store or Corporate Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device and browsing session:
- Browser and device information: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device type
- Connection information: IP address and approximate geographic location
- Browsing activity: Pages viewed, referring website, time spent on pages, and date/time of visit
- Cookies: Small data files placed on your device to enable site functionality and remember preferences
This information is collected through cookies, server log files, and third-party analytics tools. See Section 5 for details on cookies and how to manage them.
1.2 When You Make a Purchase
When you place an order through the Store, we collect:
- Identity information: Name, email address, phone number
- Shipping information: Shipping address
- Billing information: Billing address. Payment card details are processed by our store’s payment provider (Shopify Payments) and are never stored on our servers.
- Order details: Products purchased, quantities, order total
1.3 When You Use Our Products (Device Firmware)
Our hardware products (such as the Edge-o-Matic, Mercury 1000, and Tremble-Me-Not) run firmware that stores certain data locally on the device itself:
- Configuration settings: Vibration preferences, sensitivity thresholds, runtime parameters, and similar device-specific settings
- Wi-Fi credentials: Network name and password, stored on-device only to enable Wi-Fi features
- Bluetooth device name: Your device broadcasts a configurable Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) name that is visible to nearby devices during pairing
What firmware does NOT do:
- Firmware may connect to your Wi-Fi network if you configure it to do so, but it does not automatically check for updates or make any requests to our servers unless you manually initiate the action
- Firmware does not transmit usage data, analytics, or crash reports
- Firmware does not record or transmit session data, usage patterns, or any biometric information
- All configuration data remains on the device unless you explicitly initiate a firmware update or connect to Maus-Hub
Future telemetry features (automatic update checks, opt-in crash reports, opt-in analytics) are under development and will be opt-in only with clear disclosure before activation. This policy will be updated before any such features are enabled.
1.3a When You Use Our Companion Software
Our companion Software (mobile apps, desktop utilities, firmware upload tools) may collect:
- Device discovery information: Bluetooth or network scan results used to locate and connect to your Maus-Tec devices
- Error reports: If error reporting is enabled, crash data may be sent to our error tracking service (see Section 3)
Companion Software does not collect or transmit session data, usage patterns, or any biometric information.
1.4 When Your Device Checks for Firmware Updates
Firmware updates are currently initiated manually by the user. When you choose to check for or download a firmware update, the following information is transmitted to our update server (ota.maustec.net):
- Device serial number
- Current firmware version
- Device model identifier
- Your IP address (standard for any internet connection)
We use this information to determine whether an update is available for your device and to monitor fleet-wide firmware version distribution using anonymized, aggregated data.
Serial number handling: Device serial numbers transmitted during update checks are not stored in our database. They may appear in transient server logs, which are subject to our data retention policy (see Section 7).
1.5 When You Create a Maus-Hub Account
Maus-Hub is currently under development. This section will be updated before the platform launches. The following describes planned data collection:
- Account information: Email address, display name, password (stored as a one-way cryptographic hash — we cannot read your password)
- Device registrations: Device MAC addresses linked to your account
- Content activity: Free and paid content (such as plugins, audio packs, and patterns) downloaded or purchased through the Marketplace
- Payment information: If you purchase paid content, your payment details are processed by our payment provider (currently Stripe) and are never stored on our servers
- Preferences: Per-device and per-content settings and configurations
1.6 When You Use Maus-Link
Maus-Link is currently under development. This section will be updated before the service launches. The following describes planned data collection:
- Connection metadata: Such as session identifiers, connection timestamps, and relay duration
- IP addresses of connected devices
- No session content: Maus-Link operates as a blind relay. It facilitates connections between devices but does not inspect, record, store, or analyze the data transmitted between connected devices. We do not enforce protocol-level restrictions on relay traffic.
1.7 When You Contact Customer Support
When you contact us through our support portal (support.maustec.io) or by email, Zendesk — our support platform — collects:
- Contact information: Name, email address
- Correspondence: Messages exchanged during support interactions
- Device information: Browser and device details when using the web portal
For Zendesk’s own data practices, see: https://www.zendesk.com/company/agreements-and-terms/privacy-notice/
